THE RETINA RECEIVES AND THE CORTEX BELIEVES

The Centre for Visual Sciences organised a conference to take place at the Australian National University on Tuesday and Wednesday the 28th and 29th of January, 1997. The theme of the conference was The retina receives and the cortex believes. That reflected the fields of interest of two members of the Centre for Visual Science at the ANU, Bill Levick and Geoff Henry, who were retiring and whose contributions to Visual Neuroscience we would like to acknowledge at this meeting.

There were over 100 participants. The date for the meeting was chosen to be just before two other meetings taking place in Australia. The first, was held in Thredbo in the Australian Alps close to Canberra on 30th January to 2nd February, concentrated on the retina and will be held to honour Bill Levick. The second meeting was that of the Australian Neuroscience Society, which will bewasheld in Newcastle from 3rd to 5th February.
